Workplace/Sports Injuries: Why Suffer?

Pain is a sign that something is wrong!

Dr. Kjaer, Victoria Family Chiropractor, may help if you have:

  • plantar fasciitis
  • bunions
  • ankle sprain – acute or chronic
  • wrist / hand pain or numbness
  • shoulder pain or limited movement
  • ankle / foot pain
  • lockjaw or jaw ache
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • bursitis of the hip or shoulder
  • tendonitis
  • knee pain / stiffness / limited movement
  • elbow pain
  • any extremity joint symptoms / limited movement / weakness

Causes

The lifestyle you have depends on proper mobility of the spine and extremities. Workplace stress and sports cause joints of the body to lose their normal motion and position. When this happens there is swelling and reduced range of motion. This can be caused by repetitive motions, improper sitting, overexertion, slips, falls, accidents, etc. Terms like “tennis elbow”, “runner’s knee”, “frozen shoulder” and “carpal tunnel syndrome” describe these injuries.

Solution

The traditional treatment of these problems involved splinting the joint to reduce movement, pain medications, muscle relaxers, massage, steroid injections, and even surgery! A more common sense approach is taken by Dr. Kjaer: joint mobilization and soft tissue techniques for the muscles and ligaments. Treatment improves function and reduces scar tissue. Much of Dr. Kjaer’s practice is treating the extremity joints and soft tissues. A very common reason people are referred to our office is for these types of problems.

Some people take drugs to cover up the symptoms, but the actual cause of the injury is not being addressed. Others simply choose to do nothing. The symptoms may subside temporarily, but as soon as the aggravating activity begins again the symptoms and pain reappear. It is no solution to do nothing in the hope the problem goes away on its own.

A better approach is to be proactive. If a thorough examination reveals reduced range of motion, short ligaments, tight muscles or mechanical restrictions, Dr. Kjaer can make a difference by restoring normal motion to the extremity joints and tissues. This can improve function and decrease pain.

Dr. Kjaer utilizes treatments to correct these and other musculo-skeletal problems. Ultimately, this can ensure that you get more out of your life: sports, family time, hobbies, physical activities and work.

Nick relates his experience with Dr. Kjaer:

“It was with some trepidation that I consulted with you.  My lack of experience with chiropractic treatment found me to be somewhat naive if not cynical of this process.  However, I appreciated your sincerity, depth of questioning and professional attitude and decided to follow the regime of treatment you proposed.

In less than a month most of the symptoms have disappeared or subsided substantially.  The numbness in my legs is gone and the numbness and restricted movement in my left hand has decreased to a point where I can rehearse with my guitar for a rigorous hour at a time.  Best of all, perhaps, is the renewed sense of strength and stability I feel.

Thank you Richard for the work you’ve done with me.  I’m thankful to have found chiropractic and this healing relationship with you.  I’m looking forward to the long term continuance of our association”.
